Ilhan Omar’s Home Searched Under Federal Warrant

Ilhan Omar is a Minnesota congresswoman whose Washington-area home was searched on October 12, 2026, by Homeland Security Investigations agents executing a judicially authorized warrant. The Justice Department described an ongoing criminal investigation but gave no public details about its subject; Omar said the search was political targeting. Separately, federal campaign-finance records show her campaign committees reported about $8.34 million in receipts for the 2023–24 cycle.

Federal agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C.-area home on Monday, October 12, 2026. The Justice Department said Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the department, in connection with an ongoing federal criminal investigation. The department did not identify the investigation’s subject or provide other details in its public statement. Associated Press reporting said the search involved Omar, while the department’s statement, as quoted in coverage, described the operation in the Washington area without naming her.

Omar described the search as an attempt to target political opponents and weaponize federal law enforcement. Her spokesperson called it an abuse of power; House Democratic leaders also criticized the search. The Justice Department’s public explanation established that the warrant was judicially authorized, but the warrant and underlying application were not included in the reviewed coverage. The search itself is not a court finding of wrongdoing, and the public information reviewed does not establish the investigation’s target or outcome.

Omar represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs. She served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019, was elected to the U.S. House on November 6, 2018, and was sworn in in January 2019. The 2026 Congressional Directory lists earlier community, campaign, and state-government work, including a role as a senior policy aide in the Minneapolis City Councilman Andrew Johnson’s office from 2013 to 2015.

Federal Election Commission records show that Omar’s authorized committees reported $8,335,875.08 in total receipts and $8,063,370.60 in total disbursements during the 2023–24 election cycle. These figures cover the committees’ campaign finances from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2024; they are not personal earnings. The available totals do not by themselves connect any contribution to a vote, official decision, or benefit.
